Woman assisting Police after baby’s body found in Albert Park

A woman is assisting Police with enquiries after the discovery of the body of a newborn baby in Albert Park early this morning.

Police were called to the scene about 7am after a park worker discovered the infant.

Sadly, when examined, there were no signs of life.

A scene examination is now underway, and Police are speaking to a woman believed to be the baby’s mother.

A post-mortem examination will also be carried out in the coming days.

Information sought following assault, Tokoroa


Location:

Bay of Plenty

Police are asking for the public’s help after an assault on the roadside on Friday in Tokoroa.

About 4.15am near the intersection of Old Taupo Road and Baird Road, a man stopped his vehicle to assist another motorist.

During this interaction he was allegedly assaulted, causing a head injury.

He is now recovering at home.

Police are now working to establish the full circumstances of what has occurred, and to locate the other party believed to be involved.

Fatal crash, Te Mata


Location:

Waikato

One person has died following a crash in Te Mata yesterday evening.

At around 5.50pm, Police were alerted to a single-vehicle crash on Kawhia Road.

Despite best efforts of emergency services, one person died at the scene.

One other person was transported to hospital in a moderate condition.

The Serious Crash Unit has examined the scene, and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Fatal crash, South Taranaki

One person has died following a crash on Nukumaru Station Road in Waitōtara, South Taranaki overnight.

Police were notified of the single vehicle crash at 12.10am today (23 August).

One person was critically injured and was transported to hospital. Sadly, they subsequently passed away.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are under way.

Fatal crash, Northland

One person died in a crash on Pipiwai Road in Ngararatunua, Northland last night.

Police were notified of the single vehicle crash just after 10pm yesterday (22 August).

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are under way.

Five weapons seized in Levin following Gang Conflict Warrant

Police investigating recent gang-related offending in Levin have located and seized four firearms and one knife. 

A Gang Conflict Warrant was put in place on Thursday 21 August, following four firearms incidents in as many days. 

Manawatū Area Commander, Inspector Ross Grantham says the warrant is already helping to keep the community safe.

“On thursday, we stopped and searched a vehicle, locating a firearm, we then found another firearm in the home associated to the vehicle.

“Yesterday morning, we stopped another vehicle and found two firearms.

Two officers injured and one nearly hit by vehicle following incident in Lower Hutt

Two Police officers have been injured and one officer nearly hit by a vehicle following an incident in Lower Hutt this morning.

At around 11.20am, Police were conducting a checkpoint on Gracefield Road where a vehicle has failed to stop.

The vehicle has narrowly missed a police officer while attempting to avoid the checkpoint.

Police did not initiate a pursuit however kept observations on the vehicle.

Some time later, the man and the vehicle were located on Randwick Road.

Rotorua homicide: Name release


Location:

Bay of Plenty

Police can now confirm the name of the victim of the homicide on Trigg Avenue on Wednesday (20 August).

He was 41-year-old, Temutu Vincent Ehau, of Rotorua.

Police continue to support Mr Ehau’s whānau during this difficult time.

We continue to ask for anyone that may have seen what happened to please get in touch.

We are also keen to review any CCTV or dashcam footage from the Trigg Ave area around midday Wednesday 20 August.
