Operation Governor: Police make arrests in offending against Ōrewa businesses

Police have executed a series of search warrants across west Auckland and the North Shore, as part of an investigation into offending at Ōrewa businesses.

Five people associated to the Headhunters gang have been arrested on Arson, dishonesty and criminal damage related charges.

Waitematā North Area Commander, Inspector John Thornley says Operation Governor focused on offending between September and early November.

That includes an arson at a cafe on 1 November as well as an attempted arson and other damage inflicted on businesses.

Police make second arrest in Mt Wellington homicide

Police have made a further arrest in the homicide investigation underway in Mt Wellington.

Operation Hawkin commenced on the afternoon of 5 December, after a man was allegedly stabbed on Harris Road.

He later arrived at a medical centre on Lunn Avenue, before being transported to Auckland City Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard, of Auckland City CIB, says the investigation headed south into the Waikato region as part of enquiries.

“Two men were taken into custody near Te Awamutu without incident,” he says.

Have you seen Mark?

Police are asking for the public’s help finding Mark Roiall, who has been reported missing from the Glen Innes area.

The 65-year-old was last seen at about 6pm on Sunday evening near Rowena Crecent.

Mark is described as about 172cms tall with brown eyes and wearing a singlet and shorts.

Police and Mark’s family have concerns for his wellbeing and would like to bring him home.

Cell phone distraction causes serious crash

An alleged ‘moment of recklessness’ could have caused deaths, after a driver crashed while using a cell phone on Sunday afternoon in Hampden.

District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Sarah Thorn said the driver of one vehicle admitted to Police they were distracted by changing music on their cell phone.

“They drifted completely onto the other side of the road in a 100kph area, colliding with an oncoming car. It appears that a moment of recklessness could’ve killed them.

Police make arrest after man shot in Papakura

Counties Manukau

Police have charged a man over a firearms incident in Papakura in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Enquiries began after a man sustained a gunshot wound at Maadi Place at around 2.30am, on 6 December.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Taylor, from Counties Manukau South CIB, says a man was arrested on Sunday.

He will appear in the Papakura District Court today.

“The 20-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent to grievous bodily harm,” he says.

“Police believe the victim and the offender in this matter are known to each other.”

Update: Mt Wellington homicide investigation

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in relation to the death of an Auckland man in Mount Wellington on Friday afternoon.

He has been charged with murder and other offences. He is due to appear in the Auckland District Court on Monday.

Police are still looking for others involved in the homicide.

The victim arrived at a medical centre on Lunn Avenue about 12.15pm, suffering critical injuries after being attacked with a sharp object on Harris Road. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the man died in Auckland City Hospital later that afternoon.

Appeal for information following suspicious approach, Waimakariri

Police in Waimakariri appealing for the public’s assistance following a suspicious approach on Woodend Beach.

The incident happened around 11am yesterday. Police are wanting to speak with a man in relation to the incident. He is thought to be in his 50s or 60s and owns a small dog.

Sergeant Florent Chargelegue said nobody was injured, but a woman was shaken after being approached by a man on the beach.

“We would like to hear from the gentleman involved, or anyone else who can help us piece together what happened.

Wanted to arrest: Wayne Clark

Auckland City Police are seeking information on the whereabouts of Wayne Tukaha Clark who is wanted to arrest.

Clark, 42, is wanted for breaching his court release conditions.

Police advise the public not to approach him and call 111 if he is sighted.

Clark is known to frequent the wider Auckland City and North Shore areas.

Homicide investigation launched in Mt Wellington

A homicide investigation is underway in Mt Wellington, after a man arrived at a medical centre with injuries this afternoon.

At around 12.15pm, a man arrived at a medical centre on Lunn Avenue with critical injuries.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard, of Auckland City CIB, says Police were contacted and units responded to the area, including the Police Eagle helicopter.

“After arriving at the medical centre, the man was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition,” he says.

“Despite best efforts, the man has died in hospital this afternoon.”
