An investigation has been launched after a worker was assaulted during an aggravated robbery in Otangarei last night.

Police were called to a store on William Jones Drive at about 7.25pm after a report of a group of males entering the store armed with weapons (not firearms) and making demands.

One person was assaulted and received minor injuries.

At this stage it appears cash and cigarettes were taken before the offenders fled on foot, heading in the direction of Taraire Crescent.

Police have executed a series of search warrants across Auckland and Northland, as part of the ongoing St Johns homicide investigation.

The Operation Aberfeldy team has been investigating the violent death of Kyle Whorrall at a bus stop on St Johns Road on 19 April 2025.

Today, three additional people have been charged as part of the investigation into the 33-year-old US national’s death.

Hutt Valley Police investigating the armed robbery of an Upper Hutt bar are seeking help from the public.

Police received a call just after midnight this morning reporting that a masked offender brandishing a firearm approached bar staff at Quinns Post bar on Ward Street and demanded cash.

The offender then fled on foot along Ward Street towards Heretaunga College.

Bar staff involved were shaken, but not injured, and are being provided Victim Support. There were no patrons in the bar at the time.

Police can now formally release the name of the man who died following the tragic events aboard a bus in east Auckland.

A homicide enquiry commenced on the night of 8 December, after a man suffered a fatal knife wound.

He was 59-year-old Sefo Leger of Wai O Taiki Bay in east Auckland.

“Our investigation team extend our deepest sympathies to Mr Leger’s whānau for their loss, especially at this time of the year,” Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin says.

“This senseless crime has impacted many across the community and our thoughts are with you.”

Police investigating the burglary of a business in Palmerston North on Saturday are seeking the public’s assistance locating the vehicle that was stolen from the property.

On Sunday 7 December, Police received a report of burglary that had occurred on Saturday 6 December at a commercial property on Domain Street.

A red 1994 Holden HSV Clubsport, registration: HSV425, that was undergoing restoration was stolen from the address.
