Update: Lower Hutt homicide

Attribute to Wellington Field Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Jamie Woods: 

Wellington Police investigating the death of Nathaniel Sturmey in Lower Hutt last month are asking for the public’s help, as the homicide investigation continues.

On Thursday 9 April, Police responded to Malone Road in Waterloo after Nathaniel was reported to be unresponsive outside an address. Sadly, he was confirmed to be deceased at the scene.

We can now confirm that the 29-year-old died as a result of a gunshot wound.

Pair arrested after early morning burglary

Police have helped a pair to court after they were caught helping themselves in Epsom this morning.

At around 4.24am, Police responded to a report about a burglary in progress on Kipling Avenue.

“A resident had noticed two people were attempting to break into a neighbour’s address and called 111,” Auckland City East Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Tony Ngau Chun says.

The Police Eagle helicopter deployed to the report and was soon overhead in Epsom.

Two in custody following overnight fuel siphoning incident, Tauranga

Bay of Plenty

Two Tauranga men are due to appear in Court following a report of a fuel theft from a construction site.

At around 11.35pm, Police were notified of two people at a construction site on Takitimu Drive.

Western Bay of Plenty Area Commander Inspector Clifford Paxton, says the pair were allegedly seen by a camera operator unlawfully in the area and acting suspiciously around vehicles.

He says, upon arrival the alleged offenders fled the area on foot.

“At the scene, officers saw vehicles having been broken into and equipment used to siphon fuel.”

‘Think again’: Police send strong message to visitors scamming Kiwis

A visiting UK national finds himself in custody after scamming tens of thousands’ out of an Auckland couple for a fake paint job.

The man’s associate, another visiting UK national, has scarpered from New Zealand and will face arrest if he returns.

It’s now the fourteenth time Auckland City fraud detectives have busted overseas visitors using a revolving wheel of scams against Kiwis in the past three years.

Teen arrested after lucky escape in crash

A series of poor decisions resulted in one teenager’s arrest and a badly damaged vehicle. It could have ended so much worse.

A Police unit patrolling in Highland Park observed a Toyota sports car enter Pakuranga Road from a service station just after midnight.

“The vehicle performed a loss of traction in front of the unit and sped off,” Counties Manukau East Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Peter Kaveney says.

“Police have attempted to signal the vehicle stop but the vehicle fled at speed up Angelo Avenue.”

Eagle swoops in to rescue woman lost in bush

An early morning walk turned into a rescue operation after a woman became lost in Piha bush yesterday.

At around 11am, Police received a call from a walker advising she was stuck in dense bush and unable to make her way out.

Exhausted and unsure of her exact location, the woman had been walking for three hours and was surrounded by undergrowth up to her neck.

Waitematā West Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Jon Winthrop says GPS showed the woman was near Marine Parade South, but access to the area had been washed out in a previous slip.

Update: Blenheim incident

Attribute to Inspector Simon Feltham, Marlborough Area Commander:

Police are continuing to make enquiries after a death in Blenheim yesterday.

Just before 1:30pm, Police were called to Wairau Bar Road after the body of an infant was discovered on the side of the road by a machinery operator.

Police are working to determine the circumstances in which the body came to be at this location.

A scene examination was completed today, and Wairau Bar Road has since re-opened to the public.

Two arrests in Dinsdale aggravated robbery

Attribute the following to Detective Sergeant Jonathan Carter, Criminal Investigations, Waikato Police:

Police investigating an aggravated robbery at a Hamilton property have arrested a second person in relation to the incident.

On 9 May, four males arrived at a commercial premises on Whatawhata Road armed with weapons and wearing face coverings and gloves.

Two people were injured from the offenders, and items were stolen.

On the night, a Police dog unit tracked the fleeing offenders that were on foot and arrested a 17-year-old.

Whangārei Police seek help to identify alleged offender

Northland

Whangārei Police investigating a robbery are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the alleged offender.

At around 3pm on Saturday 4 April the young victim was riding their bike along Mains Avenue when they were approached by an unknown male who demanded money.

The victim has described a tall male, who was standing near a fence outside a property on Mains Avenue, near the intersection of Churchill Street. 

The male grabbed the victims backpack, causing the victim to fall off the bike.
