Serial spitter sent to court

Police have caught up with a serial spitter causing angst amongst several North Shore communities.

Enquiries have continued into several incidents since June this year, as the unsavoury subject spiralled on social media.

“We’ve been aware of discussion of this man’s actions across Devonport and Bayswater amongst locals recently,” Waitemata East Area Prevention Manager, acting Inspector Tim Williams says.

“Today we located a person of interest walking on Wairoa Road in Narrow Neck, and he was promptly arrested.”

Arrest made after shots fired towards Police, Palmerston North

A man is in custody after two instances of gunshots being fired towards Police in Palmerston North in the past 48 hours.

In two separate incidents, the shots were aimed at Police after they tried to stop suspicious vehicles.

Superintendent Dion Bennett, Central District Commander, says Manawatu Police will not put up with this display or reckless and mindless violence.

With Police already managing gang-related tensions in Levin under powers granted by a Gang Conflict Warrant, Palmerston North Police are now considering applying for similar controls in their area.

Mismatched plates spark Police attention

A vehicle caught with mismatched plates has left two people facing a variety of charges.

At about 12.45am, Police observed a Toyota Corolla with two different number plates travelling along Eastdale Road, Avondale.

Auckland City West Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Guy Baldwin, says officers confirmed the vehicle was stolen and also allegedly linked to an aggravated robbery in Dargaville.

“Officers signalled for the vehicle to pullover, however it failed to do so.

Police disrupt antisocial road user behaviour in Tauranga

Bay of Plenty Police have intercepted and disrupted multiple planned anti-social road user gatherings overnight with arrests, impounds, and infringements issued.

A significant number of anti-social road users travelled from Hamilton, Rotorua, and other areas to congregate in Tauranga for planned meet-ups.

Over the course of the operation, more than 100 Police staff were out on the roads, conducting checkpoints throughout the wider Tauranga area.

The Police Eagle Helicopter was deployed to assist, providing crucial information to staff on the ground.

Operation Purple: Infringements, arrests in anti-social road user gathering

A strong Police presence in Manawatū overnight saw officers spoil the intentions of anti-social road users, and issue dozens of infringements.

Operation Purple – supported by staff from Whanganui, Taranaki, Wellington, and Hawke’s Bay – saw at least 250 breath tests conducted, and successfully prevented the activity from causing potential further harm and distress.

Manawatū Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Ash Gurney, says staff pulling together from multiple districts, along with quality planning, is what really set the operation up for success.

Police seek assistance to locate missing person: Thames-Coromandel

Police are still seeking the public’s help in locating Jared, who was reported missing from the Thames area on Tuesday (26 August).

The 35-year-old was last seen on Sunday morning (24 August) leaving his home address on Waiomu Valley Road. Jared was heading towards the Coromandel, but he never returned home.

Over the weekend, Thames-Coromandel bach owners, hunters, trampers and campers, might see Jared or his vehicle.

Jared is thought to be driving a black 2018 Mitsubishi Triton, registration number: LKK544.

Murder charge laid in relation to Rotorua homicide

Police have charged a 17-year-old male with murder, following the death of a man in Trigg Ave, Rotorua on Wednesday 20 August.

The male appeared in the Rotorua Youth Court today, and has been remanded in custody until his next appearance on 12 September.

Three other people, aged 19, 20 and 64 were earlier charged with assault with intent to injure and possessing offensive weapons.

We would like to thank the members of the public who have come forward and provided information.
