Seconds count: New tech already proving its worth

A world-first tool to assist emergency services in locating people in need is proving it’s weight in gold after being put to the test this week.

The Device Location Information (DLI) technology was launched last week, making it faster for Police to narrow the search area for people who are unable or unwilling to say where they are, in circumstances where it is neccessary to prevent or lessen a serious threat to the life or health of the individual concerned or another individual.

Grave concerns for missing woman in Auckland

Auckland City Police are appealing for sightings of a missing woman and hold significant concerns for her wellbeing.

Te Anihana Beau Pomana, 25, was last seen leaving Sky City on 21 August around 5.06am, leaving all her belongings at the hotel.

Today, Police are releasing footage of Te Anihana’s last known movements.

“It’s hoped this footage will jog the memory of anyone who may have seen or come into contact with her,” Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend, of Auckland City CIB says.

Wellington arrests for New Zealand’s largest seizure of Class B controlled drug GBL

A Police and Customs operation has resulted in New Zealand’s largest ever seizure of gamma butyrolactone (GBL) at the border and four arrests in Wellington.

GBL is commonly known as Fantasy or liquid ecstasy.

Earlier this month an estimated 1,950 litres of GBL have been seized. Four men are now before the courts on a range of significant drugs charges.

Arrests made in Waikato meth bust

Waikato

Waikato West Police have today made three arrests after two search warrants in relation to Operation Dolphin.

The investigation sought to uncover the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine and GBL in the North Waikato area.

Three men were arrested after two search warrants executed in Huntly and Te Kauwhata.

Local staff were assisted at these warrants by the Armed Offenders Squad and Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

At one of the addresses, Police located a clandestine laboratory allegedly used for manufacturing meth.

Police response to IPCA findings

Waikato

Police acknowledge the findings of the Independent Police Conduct Authority in relation to the actions of two officers during an arrest.

On 17 September 2023, Police approached a man (identified only as Mr X) who was sitting in the drivers seat, to request his name and address.

One of the officers reached into the vehicle to remove the car keys from the ignition.

Mr X has tried to stop the officer, resulting in an altercation ending in his arrest.

Knock, knock: It’s court calling

Auckland City

A man acting suspiciously around parcels at a Glen Innes property has delivered himself a court summons.

On Wednesday morning, Police received information about the man hanging around a residential unit.

Both the homeowner and neighbours reported the man had no reason to be there, Auckland City East Area Prevention Manager Inspector Rachel Dolheguy says.

“He was allegedly examining courier packages left outside the property, and neighbours had challenged the unknown man about what he was doing,” she says.

Police shut down cannabis grow operation

A man is facing a range of charges after Police seized over 100 cannabis plants, a firearm, and ammunition in Greymouth.

About 12:30pm on Monday (25 August) Police executed a search warrant at an address in Cobden.

During the search of the property Police uncovered an indoor grow setup with over 100 cannabis plants, a rifle, and a small amount of ammunition.

The warrant is part of Tasman Police’s continued effort to crack down on criminals profiting from the sale of drugs.

Northland Police carry out tens of thousands of breath tests

Northlanders thinking they can get away with driving after a few drinks are more likely to be stopped, with Police calling out a “reckless culture” amongst some.

It comes after Northland Police conducted 37,000 breath tests across the region within the past two months.

Police officers in a variety of roles are all playing their part in reducing harm on their roads, Northland’s Road Policing Manager Inspector John Fagan says.

In the past week alone 5,500 breath screening tests were carried out as part of regular duties.

Fatal crash: SH93, Clutha


Location:

Southern

Police can confirm one person has died following the single-vehicle crash on State Highway 93/Old Coach Road this morning.

Emergency services were called to the crash, between Dodds Road and Hurst Road, at around 10.15am.

Sadly, a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit remains at the scene and the road remains closed.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
