Police shut down cannabis grow operation

A man is facing a range of charges after Police seized over 100 cannabis plants, a firearm, and ammunition in Greymouth.

About 12:30pm on Monday (25 August) Police executed a search warrant at an address in Cobden.

During the search of the property Police uncovered an indoor grow setup with over 100 cannabis plants, a rifle, and a small amount of ammunition.

The warrant is part of Tasman Police’s continued effort to crack down on criminals profiting from the sale of drugs.

Northland Police carry out tens of thousands of breath tests

Northlanders thinking they can get away with driving after a few drinks are more likely to be stopped, with Police calling out a “reckless culture” amongst some.

It comes after Northland Police conducted 37,000 breath tests across the region within the past two months.

Police officers in a variety of roles are all playing their part in reducing harm on their roads, Northland’s Road Policing Manager Inspector John Fagan says.

In the past week alone 5,500 breath screening tests were carried out as part of regular duties.

Fatal crash: SH93, Clutha


Location:

Southern

Police can confirm one person has died following the single-vehicle crash on State Highway 93/Old Coach Road this morning.

Emergency services were called to the crash, between Dodds Road and Hurst Road, at around 10.15am.

Sadly, a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit remains at the scene and the road remains closed.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Update: Death in Police custody, Christchurch

Police are still making enquiries into the circumstances of a death in Police custody in Christchurch earlier this week.

Around 1am on Monday 25 August Police attended a Rakaia address following reports of an intoxicated woman, in possession of a knife, hurting herself and threatening harm to others.

Faced with a tense and dangerous situation, and after unsuccessful appeals for the weapon to be put down, Police tasered the woman.

Wanted to arrest: Xilin Huang and Gongbao Fang


Location:

Auckland City

Police are seeking to locate Xilin Huang and Gongbao Fang, who have several warrants for their arrest.

Huang, 39, and Fang, 46, are wanted to arrest on numerous drugs offences including possession for supply of methamphetamine, and other controlled drugs.

It is believed the two Chinese Nationals may be working as tradesmen.

Police believe these men are in the Auckland region and locating them is a priority.

Any sightings of Huang or Fang should be reported to Police on 111 immediately.

Homicide investigation launched, Gisborne

Attribute to Tairāwhiti Area Commander, Inspector Danny Kirk:

Gisborne Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a man in Mangapapa early this morning.

Police were called to an address on Winter Street at around 6:50am after receiving a report of disturbance coming from the home.

On arrival to the address, Police located a man who was unresponsive and immediately commenced first aid.

Unfortunately, despite emergency services best efforts, the man was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Missing parcels deliver arrests

Waitematā Police have wasted little time getting to the bottom of a ‘missing mail mystery’ in West Auckland.

An investigation into a spate of parcel thefts has resulted in two arrests and seizure of a range of items this morning at a house in Glen Eden, Auckland.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ryan Bunting, Area Investigations Manager, Waitematā West, says the first reports of the offending occurred around 12 August, though it’s likely to have started before this.

Wheeling and dealing lands trio in Police hands

Waitematā

Two-wheelers were the target for thieves in West Auckland last night with arrests made in two separate incidents.

Just after 5pm, Police observed a pair on a moped weaving through traffic in Titirangi.

Upon closer inspection officers realised the moped was wanted in relation to a previous incident and Eagle was called in to assist in tracking it until it was abandoned in an underground carpark.
