Investigation continues into Eastern Terrace death

Canterbury Police are continuing to investigate the sudden death of a man at a residential address on Eastern Terrace in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police have now concluded a full forensic scene examination at the property, and the scene has been formally handed back to the family. Officers have completed a number of inquiries and are making very good progress in establishing the facts surrounding the man’s death.

Mountain biker rescued after hypothermia sets in

Northland

A mountain biker’s extreme training session took a dangerous turn when he became stranded in Northland bush, losing daylight and becoming hypothermic.

Northland Police SAR lead, Detective Sergeant Paul Overton, says the biker had set off from Kerikeri on Saturday.

“He was aiming to push his limits on the Department of Conservation tracks in the Waimamaku Range,” he says.

“Unbeknown to him, he missed a crucial turnoff and underestimated the terrain and weather conditions.”

The alarm was raised by the stranded mountain biker at about 8.30pm that night.

Arrest following arson in Massey


Location:

Waitematā

A specialist scene examination is continuing at a property in West Auckland today, following a suspicious fire this morning.

Police arrived at the address in Colwill Road, Massey at about 5.30am to execute two search warrants and upon Police approach one of the properties erupted in fire.

Detective Inspector Albie Alexander, of National Organised Crime Group, says Police believe the house may have been deliberately set on fire.

“It was one of two properties of interest suspected of involvement in manufacturing  drugs.

Update: Bucklands Beach, fatal fire

Counties Manukau

Police have confirmed the fatal fire last Thursday morning in Bucklands Beach is now being treated as a double homicide.

Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua, Counties Manukau District Crime Manager, says emergency services attended the home in Murvale Drive at around 2.30am.

“When Police and Fire and Emergency NZ arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames.

“Three people were able to escape the fire, while sadly two people were not, and were found deceased inside the home.”

Northland Police seek sightings of vehicle:

Northland

Northland Police are appealing for public help following reports of a burglary at a service station on SH12, Kaihu, Kaipara, this morning.

“At around 1.30am, Police received a report of a vehicle attempting to drive into the front door of the business,” Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer, Area Investigations Manager, Northland, says.

“No entry was gained and the offenders fled before Police arrived. We’re appealing for any sightings of a black car in the vicinity around that time and may have been seen heading towards Dargaville around 1.45am.”

Police search for Jayleb-Che


Location:

Bay of Plenty

Police are asking public near Waiotapu Loop Road to search their property for anything that may relate to the search for Jayleb-Che, age 36, who has been missing since Tuesday 30 September in Rotorua.

Police, and Search and Rescue, are actively searching the area where Jayleb-Che was last known to be.

Police would like to hear from members of the public who used the ‘hot and cold’ pools on Waiotapu Loop Road between 10pm on Tuesday 30 September and 10am on Wednesday 1 October.

Police are particularly interested in any dashcam or CCTV footage.
