Violent assault sees man facing court

A security guard has been charged following a serious assault outside a central Auckland bar overnight.

Senior Sergeant Shaun Richardson, Auckland Central Area Response Manager, says around 1.38am Police responded to reports of an assault on Karangahape Road.

“Witnesses called Police after seeing a security guard allegedly punch the victim in the face and as a result he lost consciousness.

“The guard then allegedly dragged the unconscious male a short distance down the road and left him by a bench.”

Arrest after electoral office fire

A man has been charged with arson in relation to a small fire at a Northpark electoral office yesterday.

Emergency services responded to Millhouse Drive shortly after 9:50am.

A 24-year-old man will appear in the Manukau District Court today charged with arson.

Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the fire.

Pack peace of mind: PLB and satellite phone is the key

Police are praising rescue staff who retrieved four teenagers from Mid Wairoa Hut in the Richmond Ranges over the long weekend. 

A personal locator beacon (PLB) was activated in the Richmond Forest Park area, Tasman at about 10.50 Monday morning.

Police worked alongside the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ), and Land Search and Rescue (LandSAR) teams to launch a rescue operation attempting to access the four 17-18 year olds.

Name release: Fatal crash, Taupō

Police can now name the man that died after a crash on Te Heuheu Street on Friday 29 May.

He was John Preston, 65, of Manukau in Auckland.

Our thoughts are with the loved ones of John at this difficult time.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

One in custody after fleeing driver pursuit spans cities

One person is in custody after Hamilton Police responded to an alert to be on the lookout for a speeding vehicle from Auckland.

The vehicle was sighted speeding in Manurewa, Auckland, yesterday – the driver quickly fled officers and Police did not pursue. The vehicle was then seen again this morning speeding on State Highway 1 near Takanini heading south.

The registration was recorded, and an alert was sent to other policing districts.

Appeal for information following vehicle assault, Balclutha

Police investigating after a person was struck by a vehicle in Balclutha last month are appealing to the public for information.

On Sunday 17 May, around 2am, Police responded to Clyde Street, near Lanark Street, after reports that a large group was fighting and vehicles were doing burnouts.
