Tasman Police, in partnership with Poutini Ngāi Tahu and Poutini Waiora, are pleased to announce the launch of Te Pae Oranga on the West Coast. 

A celebration hosted by Te Tai Poutini Polytechnic to welcome Te Pae Oranga was attended by iwi representatives, community leaders, Poutini Waiora and Police today. 

Northland Police are appealing to the public for information following the theft of a significant sculpture in Whangārei. 

At around 3.15am on 24 August, the sculpture Tiori Toru was removed from the grounds of the Hundertwasser Art Centre. 

Senior Sergeant Charmaine Smith, Whangārei Area Response Manager, says the offender left the scene on a bike and the sculpture has not yet been located.

‘While enquiries are ongoing, we are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for the theft.

Police can now formally release the name of the woman who died following a fatal crash in Manurewa on 27 August. 

She was Monique Marie Jennifer Lay, 27, of Ōtara.

Police extend our condolences to Monique’s loved ones during this difficult time.

The critical incident investigation remains ongoing, and Police are continuing to establish the full circumstances around what unfolded that evening.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder following the death of two people in Wattle Downs last week.

Emergency services were called to a Gambare Place address at about 1.45pm following a report of a person armed with a handgun at the property and a woman injured.

Upon Police arrival two people were located deceased.

Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Va’aelua, Counties Manukau CIB, says Police had been speaking with a man who was in custody for an unrelated offence, and this morning charged him with two counts of murder.
