Mystery hero answers Police call after dramatic house fire rescue

Yesterday Gisborne Police put out a public call to find a hero who rescued an 89-year-old from a house fire.

Today, 37-year-old Gisborne born and bred construction worker Tim Morris walked through the front doors of the Police station.

Police were first made aware of the fire on Aberdeen Road at approximately 1am on Saturday.

Extensive search and rescue operation underway in Ōpōtiki

A large-scale search and rescue operation is underway in Ōpōtiki looking for two men who jumped into a river earlier today.

The two men failed to stop for Police around 3:45am, before jumping into Otara River near Snell Road.

Police have searched the river, and deployed helicopters and ground crew across farmland to find the missing men.

Police are appealing directly to the men, or to those who know them, or may have picked them up, to please get in touch.

Arrest following Hillcrest firearms incident

One person been charged following a firearms incident in Hamilton yesterday.

Police received report of an air gun being fired at a member of the public at a bus stop on Masters Avenue near Hillcrest Park just before 3pm.

That person sustained moderate injuries and was transported for medical treatment. 

Following extensive enquiries, at approximately 1am today, the Armed Offenders Squad and CIB assisted front line staff at a Hamilton property where firearms, ammunition and other weapons were discovered.

Appeal for sightings of males who jumped in river

Police in the Ōpōtiki area are appealing to the public to locate two males who failed to stop for officers this morning before jumping in the river.

Around 3:45am, the driver of a vehicle ran a red light in the Wainui area and failed to stop for Police when signalled .

Road spikes were successfully deployed about 10km from Ōpōtiki shortly after 4am, before the vehicle came to a stop down Snell Road, by the Otara River.

The two occupants have then got out of the vehicle and jumped into the water.

Fatal crash closes road, Kawarau Falls, Queenstown

Southern

One person has died in a single vehicle crash on State Highway 6 (Kingston Road), Kawarau Falls this morning.

It happened shortly before 4am between the intersections of Peninsula Road and Boyd Road.

Two people in the car had serious injuries, one had critical injuries, while one died at the scene.

One lane has been open, however the Serious Crash Unit is now in attendance which is expected to close the road for a time.

Police seek witnesses to Hillcrest firearms incident

Police are seeking information from the public in relation to a firearms incident reported in Hamilton today.

Police received report of an air gun being fired at a member of the public at a bus stop on Masters Avenue near Hillcrest Park just before 3pm.

One person sustained moderate injuries and have been transported for medical treatment. 

The community can be reassured Police are making active enquiries to locate the offenders.

The four to five suspects are described to be in a small orange car. One of the occupants has long hair.

Gisborne Police searching for hero

Gisborne Police are searching for a hero who rescued an 89-year-old from a house fire this morning.

Emergency services were first made aware of the fully involved fire on Aberdeen Road at approximately 1am.

Police understand the hero was in a car driving past, saw the blaze and pulled over. 

He then entered the burning building and pulled the occupant to safety through a window. However, he left the scene before emergency services were able to speak with him.

Update: Unexplained death, Dunedin

Attribute to Detective Senior Sergeant Hayden Smale, Otago Police:

Police investigating an unexplained death in Leckhampton Court and Bridge Street have completed the post-mortem examination into the deceased.

Results have not determined a cause of death, which remains unexplained.

Further enquiries attempting to establish the circumstances will be undertaken over the weekend. 

Police are appealing to anyone with information that may assist, to please come forward.

Do you know this woman?

Police are seeking the public’s assistance to help identify a woman located in central Auckland this week.

Concerns were raised about the woman’s welfare, and Police were notified on Monday 28 September.

She was transported to Auckland City Hospital where she has been receiving care.

Police are making this appeal after exhausting all lines of enquiry this week to identify her, including engaging with several community organisations and agencies.

  • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused an empty “Steam Family Activity” group to appear in notification settings

Remote Play

  • Improved the automatic Pyrowave bitrate calculation to improve visual quality

  • Added convars @PyrowavePSNR and @PyrowaveHeightFactor to tune automatic bitrate calculation (see https://github.com/Themaister/pyrowave/blob/master/eval-results/objective-bitrate-evaluation.md for details)

  • Pyrowave manual bitrates can be increased up to 1 Gbit/s (more bandwidth increases latency!)
