A man is in critical condition after a reported assault in Norsewood.

Police and ambulance were called to reports of disorder around 10:30am on the side of State Highway 2, following which the alleged offenders have left in a vehicle.

The victim has suffered critical injuries and has been transported by helicopter to Wellington Hospital.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate the vehicle and those involved.

A Police presence remains at the scene of the assault, just north of Kopua Road.

Media are advised that due to staffing constraints, the Police Media Centre will close at 7pm on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October.

As always, information about any critical events outside our operating hours will be released proactively as soon as possible.

Otherwise, any requests received after 7pm will be triaged the next morning.

One person has died after a water related incident in Tangimoana this afternoon.

About 2.30pm, Police were called to Tangimoana Beach Road after reports of two people were swept out to sea while swimming.

One person has managed to self rescue and reach the shore safely.

Sadly, at around 3.50pm, one person was located deceased.

Police worked at the scene alongside Hato Hone St John, New Zealand Defence Force, alongside volunteers from Coastguard Manawatū and Coastguard Whanganui, Surf Life Saving New Zealand, and members of the public.

Police can confirm the identity of the man that was found deceased on Leckhampton Court on Wednesday 30 September.

He was 40-year-old David Noah, from Dunedin.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances around Mr Noah’s death, and enquiries are ongoing.

A recent post-mortem has not determined a cause of death and our appeal for information remains current.

If you observed anything unusual in the Leckhampton Court area between 8 and 11pm on Wednesday night, please contact Police.

Police are appealing for information as enquiries continue into a fatal crash involving a cyclist on Dyers Pass Road, Christchurch, this morning Friday 9 October. 

As part of the investigation, Police would like to speak with the driver of a small white hatchback that was travelling south on Dyers Pass Road towards Governors Bay at around 10.20am. 

Police believe the driver may have information that could assist enquiries. 

Police are asking the driver, or anyone who may know who was driving the vehicle at that time, to get in touch.

Christchurch Police’s investigation into the death of Braydon Hepworth remains ongoing. 

Police can now confirm the postmortem has been completed.

We continue to conduct a scene examination at a Hereford Street address, and it will take some time to complete. 

This investigation is complex, with a range of enquiries to follow and material to be reviewed.

Police can now release the name of the man who died following a crash on State Highway 6, Kingston Road, on 4 October.

He was Sandesh Singh, 29, from Jacks Point, Queenstown.

Our thoughts are with his family as they go through this difficult time.

She was 90-year-old Sietske Reinds, from Alexandra.
