One person has died following a crash in Awanui earlier today.
The two-vehicle crash involving a car and motorbike on State Highway 1 was reported at midday.
The rider died at the scene, no other injuries have been reported.
The road remains closed while a scene examination is conducted.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect ongoing delays.

adminPolice responding to anti-social road user events in Taranaki over the weekend have arrested four people, issued over 50 infringements and impounded three cars and a motorcycle for dangerous driving.
Inspector Mark Miller, Taranaki Area Commander, says the dangerous and unlawful driving was reported on Plantation Road and Main North Road on Friday and Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to the Geraldine-Fairlie Highway, at the intersection with Slacks Valley Road, just after 9pm last night.
One of the occupants of the single vehicle died at the scene, and the second was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit attended and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
