One person has died following a crash in Awanui earlier today.

The two-vehicle crash involving a car and motorbike on State Highway 1 was reported at midday.

The rider died at the scene, no other injuries have been reported.

The road remains closed while a scene examination is conducted.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect ongoing delays.

One person has died and another has been injured following a crash in Pleasant Valley, near Geraldine.

Emergency services were called to the Geraldine-Fairlie Highway, at the intersection with Slacks Valley Road, just after 9pm last night.

One of the occupants of the single vehicle died at the scene, and the second was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit attended and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
