Police and Oranga Tamariki are jointly conducting an investigation involving a community-based tutor.

The tutor has previously provided tuition through a number of schools and community organisations in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.

As part of these enquiries, Police and Oranga Tamariki have been working with schools and the Ministry of Education to identify children who may have had contact with the tutor, and to engage with their families.

A man has now been charged following a firearms incident in Massey on Wednesday night.

Around 7.49pm on 21 October, Police responded to reports a man was allegedly possession of a long-barrelled weapon and had pointed it at a neighbour.

The incident was brought to a conclusion before 11pm, where the Armed Offenders Squad entered the house and the man was subsequently shot.

Acting Superintendent Matt Laurenson, Waitematā District Commander, says charges have since been laid.
