Six people rescued from floodwaters, Marlborough

Six people were rescued last night after becoming trapped in floodwaters in Marlborough.

Emergency services were notified about 8.35pm of vehicles stuck in floodwaters on SH6, near Canvastown.

Police Search and Rescue immediately deployed, along with Fire and Emergency New Zealand, the New Zealand Defence Force, and Surf Lifesaving New Zealand, and six people were retrieved from vehicles.

State Highway 6 between Pelorus and Havelock was closed, and remains closed this morning, while floodwater levels remain high.

Fatality following crash, SH2 Horokiwi


Location:

Wellington

Police can now advise a woman who was struck by a car on State Highway 2 at Horokiwi yesterday evening has died.

The crash was reported to Police at 6.25pm.

Indications are that the woman had exited her vehicle after a minor crash, and was then struck by another vehicle.

Immediate medical assistance was provided, however sadly, she was unable to be revived.

Police wish to thank the public for their patience while the Serious Crash Unit and other specialists attended the incident.

Teens charged over security guard assault

Counties Manukau

Police have made two arrests over an alleged serious assault on a supermarket security guard late last month.

An investigation commenced after two offenders fled from a Papakura supermarket on Averill Street on 24 April.

Detective Senior Sergeant Natalie Nelson, from Counties Manukau South CIB, says the security guard had intervened during a shoplifting taking place.

“Two offenders allegedly subjected the guard to an assault which required him to be taken to Middlemore Hospital for treatment,” she says.

Timely response lands one in the bag

Time was of the essence in Albany after a worker was allegedly assaulted trying to stop a man who hadn’t paid for groceries.

At about 6.30pm, Police were notified of a man who had allegedly attempted to leave the supermarket while concealing a number of items in bags.

Waitematā East acting Area Prevention Manager, acting Inspector CJ Miles, says the staff member approached the man to advise that he had failed to pay for the items.

Body located in river at Otututu/Rough River, West Coast South Island


Location:

Tasman

Police can confirm a body has been recovered from Otututu/Rough River, Ikamatua on the West Coast.

The body was found downstream after a tractor was located upturned in the river at about 10.45 this morning.

The body is believed to be the sole occupant of the tractor.

Police extend their sincere condolences to the deceased’s family at this very difficult time.

Police ask that members of the public avoid the area while emergency services are at the scene.

The death will be referred to the Coroner.
