A rider has lost his bike for a month and been summonsed to court after making a poor decision in Moerewa yesterday.

At about 5pm, officers observed an unregistered dirt bike travelling at speed on Otiria Road before turning into Pokapu Road.

Mid North Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Mark Barratt, says the officers activated their lights and sirens to signal for the rider to stop.

“The rider has then unfortunately made the decision not to stop and continued on driving into a culvert and onto a grass patch.

Police are aware of a number of emailed threats to schools and other institutions across the country today.

At this stage, Police perceive the threats to be low risk.

The Cybercrime team, supported by staff in other Police districts, have initiated an investigation and are working to determine the source of the emails.

A search for Dilane Harding, 55, a missing fisherman in Taharoa is continuing this week.

Dilane was reported missing at around 7pm on Thursday 18 June after he failed to return home from fishing off Paparoa Rock on the west coast of Taharoa earlier in the morning.

We’d like to thank all those involved in the search operation to date, including Land Search and Rescue and Auckland Coastguard Air Patrol.

Police acknowledge the findings of the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) into the handling of a Police Safety Order (PSO) issued in south Auckland.

On 25 June 2025, Police responded to a family harm incident and attended Ms X’s address after she reported Mr Y had returned to the property.

Earlier that day, the Family Court had issued a Temporary Protection Order (TPO) against Mr Y, for the protection of Ms X and their children. At the time, the TPO had not yet been entered into the Police system.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Heremaia Manuel, who is wanted in connection with a sexually motivated burglary in central Auckland.

Today warrants in lieu of summons have been issued for the 41-year-old over offending in the early hours of Saturday morning (20 June).

Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend, Auckland Central Area Investigations Manager, says Police have worked hard to progress the investigation.

Police are disappointed following the deaths of seven people, and more seriously injured, after crashes on our roads across the country this weekend.

Director of Road Policing Superintendent Steve Greally says this number is incredibly disheartening.

“There is no excuse for any driver to be endangering their lives and the lives of others with unsafe behaviours.

“This number is absolutely devastating, and we are thinking of their families as they go through this difficult time.”

Police can confirm a man has died following a crash involving an electric scooter in Christchurch.

At around 12.10am on Sunday 21 June, Police were called to Antigua Street near the Burke Street intersection.

The scooter rider received serious injuries and was transported to hospital.

Sadly, despite best efforts from medical professionals, the man died in hospital.

At this stage, Police do not believe another vehicle was involved, however our enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Police can confirm one person has died following a crash on State Highway 1, Hunterville this afternoon.

The two-vehicle crash near the intersection with Vinegar Hill Road was reported about 1:10pm.

One person died at the scene, three others were treated for moderate injuries.

State Highway 1 has since re-opened. We wish to thank motorists for their patience while the road was closed.

Wellington Police are seeking information relating to a crash in Porirua on Thursday 18 June.

The crash involving a car and a scooter on Whitford Brown Ave, Papakōwhai occurred just before 7:40am.

The person on the scooter sustained moderate injuries.

As part of Police enquiries into this crash, we’re keen to hear from anybody who witnessed the crash, or has dashcam or CCTV footage of the crash.

Canterbury Police successfully disrupted a planned anti-social road user gathering last night, issuing a large number of infringements, green and pink stickers, and impounding vehicles.

The night began in Rangiora, where vehicles had gathered in a commercial carpark before leaving the area and headed towards Swannanoa.

However the group’s movements were monitored by Police, who were waiting with a checkpoint, says Canterbury District Commander Superintendent Tony Hill.
