One person has died following a serious single-vehicle crash in Carterton yesterday. 

Emergency services were called to Gladstone Road, near Tiffin Road, about 12.50pm.

Sadly, despite best efforts, one person died at the scene. 

One other person received serious injuries and was transported to hospital.

The road was closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination.

Police’s enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Three kayakers are safely back on dry land after a chilly afternoon on the water ended with an unexpected rescue from the Police Eagle helicopter crew.

Police were first made aware of the trio capsizing at approximately 12.50pm off Maraetai Coast Road.

Eagle was quickly overhead and located the kayakers in the water.
