A day in court awaits a man who allegedly used a metal pole to cause significant damage to a Papakura supermarket early this morning.

At around 1.45am, Police received reports of a man allegedly in possession of a large metal pole on Great South Road.

Counties Manukau South Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Matt Hoyes, says the man then used the pole to allegedly smash a supermarket’s storefront windows, causing significant damage.

“Thankfully, staff inside the store were able retreat to a safe room and no one was injured.”
