Police are present at a Mangawhai property after a burglar confronted its occupants with a weapon earlier this afternoon.

Just before 2pm, a 111 call was made by an occupant at the address on Robert Street.

“An unknown male has entered the property armed with a piece of wood, and confronted occupants that were home at the time,” Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie, of Waitematā CIB says.

“This male has advanced on the occupants, and a confrontation has occurred where the occupants have disarmed the male.”

A homicide investigation is underway after a man was critically wounded during an altercation in Blockhouse Bay at the weekend. 

Operation Falconer has been established to investigate what unfolded on the afternoon of 22 August.

Acting Detective Inspector Craig Bolton, of Auckland City CIB, says Police were initially contacted after events had occurred.

A violent confrontation has occurred at around 3.40pm on Holbrook Street, near the intersection of Shoreham Street, Blockhouse Bay. 

A fleeing moped rider barked up the wrong tree after a police dog tracked him to his hiding spot, where officers found loaded firearms, drugs and a protective vest in his backpack.

A Far North man will appear in court today after allegedly assaulting a Police officer in a failed bid to evade arrest. 

Frontline staff in Kaitaia responded to a report where a man had been violently assaulting a dog in a public park on Saturday morning.

“A unit arrived at the park on Melba Street and located the alleged offender, and staff told him he was under arrest,” Kaitaia Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Richard Garton says.

The man fled on foot through the Kaitaia CBD.

Police are appealing to the public for information following a two-vehicle crash in Paraparaumu on Friday afternoon last week. 

At about 2.40pm on 21 August a white hatchback reportedly rear-ended a white MG SUV on Rimu Road, near Wharemauku Stream, before leaving the scene.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or saw the white hatchback travelling on Rimu Road or the surrounding area at around 2.40pm.

Police are appealing to the public for information following a two-vehicle crash in Lincoln this week. 

The crash occurred just before 9.40pm on Wednesday 19 August at the intersection of Shands Road and Springston Rolleston Road. One of the vehicles involved in the crash reportedly left the scene immediately without speaking with the occupant of the second vehicle. 

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car during an anti-social road user event in Manawatū in the early hours of Saturday morning. 

Detective David Burrows says at around 12:20am, Police were called to Halcombe Road, north of Feilding following reports of a vehicle colliding with a person. 

“That person was located with extensive injuries, and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at Wellington Hospital. 

Police have filed charges against two teenage boys after a fleeing driver crash that left a Palmerston North officer critically injured. 

The officer, a Constable based in Palmerston North, was deploying road spikes on Kairanga Bunnythorpe Road about 2am on Saturday, when the vehicle hit him, throwing him several metres. He was airlifted to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition, while a second officer was treated for minor injuries.

Central District Commander Superintendent Dion Bennett said the officer is being well looked after in hospital.

Police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a serious two-vehicle crash in Lindis Pass this morning, which left three people in critical condition. 

Emergency services were called to the scene, at Omarama, near Dalrachney Station, about 7.40am.

Three people were transported to hospital, where they remain in critical condition, and our thoughts are with their families at this extremely difficult time.

An investigation is underway after a sudden death at a residential address in Haruru falls, near Paihia, in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the property about 4.25am, after a report that a man had been found unresponsive. 

He was pronounced deceased a short time later. 

His death is currently being treated as unexplained, and a post-mortem examination will take place tomorrow.
