Gang patches seized following Kawerau warrants

Police have arrested six men, and seized drugs, ammunition, gang patches, and gang regalia, following search warrants in Kawerau this week. 

Seven search warrants were executed across the Kawerau area on Tuesday 25 August by the Gang Disruption Unit as part of an operation targeting gang members known to have breached the Gangs Act 2024. 

Police were made aware of the breach after the men were allegedly seen wearing the gang patches on a public road outside a gathering taking place at a private address.

Police serve up charges

Two men have received a slice of justice following a raft of burglaries at East Auckland eateries.

Police had been busy piecing together a number of burglaries in the Howick area and made a breakthrough earlier this week.

Senior Sergeant Simon Cornish, of Counties Manukau East Police, says officers were investigating a burglary at a popular eatery on Cook Street in July, which led to the discovery of a further six burglaries all with similarities.

“The team has trawled through hours of CCTV and made several enquiries in relation to these incidents.

Short back and a side of charges

A fresh haircut wasn’t enough of a disguise to help a wanted man evade Police, who tracked him down in Māngere last night.

The 30-year-old man had warrants out for his arrest following a number of incidents allegedly involving wilful damage, burglary, and threatening behaviour.  

On 25 August, Police were advised that the suspect was at a premises on Coronation Road, Māngere Bridge.

Inspector Dave Christoffersen, Counties Manukau West Area Commander, says upon Police arrival, the man refused to cooperate.

Update: Arrest after man hit by car in Manawatū

Attribute to Acting Detective Sergeant Grant Christian: 

A man has been arrested in relation to anti-social road user activity near Feilding which left a man in critical condition. 

On Saturday 22 August around 12.20am Police responded to Halcombe Road, north of Feilding, after a man was struck by a vehicle. 

The victim was found with extensive injuries. He remains in serious condition at Wellington Hospital and is supported by his family members.

Fatal crash, Appeal for witnesses, Ōamaru

Southern

One person has been confirmed deceased after a car entered the water in Ōamaru yesterday evening. 

Police were called to Holmes Wharf, around 5.30pm, with reports that a vehicle went into the Ōamaru Harbour – however, no one was seen to resurface from the water. 

With the assistance from local divers, Police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and Ambulance staff, the body of a 69-year-old Ōamaru man was located.

Fatal crash: Sunnynook Road, Sunnynook

Location:
Waitematā

One person has died following a serious crash in Sunnynook last night.

Police were called to the intersection of Sunnynook Road and Sycamore Drive about 6.30pm, following reports of a crash between a car and a pedestrian.

Sadly, despite best efforts, the pedestrian died at the scene.

Enquiries into the cause of the crash remain ongoing.

Over $700,000 of assets and cash restrained following operation termination in Hawke’s Bay

Hawke’s Bay Police have arrested two people and seized over $700,00 of assets and cash following an investigation into the sale and supply of drugs in the area.

Detective Owen McCool says several search warrants were executed across Napier and Hastings last week.

“Armed police were in attendance during the search, and the investigation brought together specialist staff from across the district.  

“The searches uncovered methamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis, and synthetics packaged for sale.”

All revved up and nowhere to go, except court

Location:

A rider who failed to stop for Police and instead hit the gas will now face court.

At about 3.20am this morning, Police spotted the vehicle travelling along Puhinui Road, Manukau towards the Southern Motorway.

“Upon approaching the motorway on-ramp the motorbike has accelerated heavily and Police have activated their red and blue lights and siren,” Detective Senior Sergeant Veronica McPherson, Counties Manukau CIB, says.

“Officers have quickly pulled back and the Police Eagle helicopter has taken over to maintain observations on the rider.”

Man charged following Flaxmere assaults

A man has been charged following two assaults in Flaxmere yesterday morning. 

Police were first notified at around 8.40am after a person was taken to hospital following an assault on Kirkwood Road. They remain in hospital in a critical condition.

A short time later, Police were made aware of a second assault in the Flaxmere area, on Palgrave Ave, where another person suffered stab wounds. They were not seriously injured.

Police believe the same person was responsible for both incidents.
