Police acknowledge the verdict delivered against two former officers involved in the miscarriage of justice for Alan Hall. 

These former officers have been found not guilty. We acknowledge the finding of the Court in this case.

Police can now confirm one person has died following this morning’s crash south of Rotorua.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash on State Highway 38, near the intersection with State Highway 5, around 9:45am.

Others involved in the crash received minor to serious injuries.

The road is about to re-open after being closed for a scene examination.

Enquiries are continuing into the circumstances of the crash.

Eastern District Police have arrested one person after a report of an armed robbery at a Waipukurau commercial premises last night. 

Around 7pm, a man entered a store on Takapau Road asking about milk. He then lifted his shirt, flashing what appeared to be a firearm to the attendant.

Thankfully, no one was harmed and no items were taken.

The man soon left the premises as a passenger in a vehicle. 

Police attended armed as a precaution and quickly identified the offender and undertook enquiries to locate him. 

Police have charged a man following a fire at a commercial premises in New Lynn.

At around 4.15pm on 9 August, emergency services were called to a report of fire at the rear of a supermarket on Great North Road.

Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie, Waitematā CIB, says the fire was quickly extinguished by Fire and Emergency New Zealand and there were no reports of injury. 

“In consultation with a fire investigator, the fire was deemed suspicious and an investigation commenced.”

Police have this morning charged a 34-year-old man with arson.

Wairarapa Police are issuing a safety appeal to the local farming community when operating off-road vehicles and machinery after recent severe weather. 

Over the last six months, our region has seen an unprecedented amount of rainfall, which has led to highly variable ground conditions. 

Wairarapa Area Commander Inspector Nick Thom says extensive slipping on farm tracks, combined with waterlogged paddocks, has left large areas of rural terrain highly unstable, uneven, and slippery. 

Police have arrested and charged a woman last week following an investigation into the supply of methamphetamine into Marlborough.

On Tuesday 4 August Police from the Tasman Organised Crime Unit, with assistance of staff from the Christchurch Organised Crime Unit, executed a search warrant at a property in Sydenham, Christchurch.

As a result, a 42-year-old woman was arrested in relation to supplying methamphetamine into the Marlborough area. Police also seized stolen property that was located during the search.

A day in court awaits a man who allegedly used a metal pole to cause significant damage to a Papakura supermarket early this morning.

At around 1.45am, Police received reports of a man allegedly in possession of a large metal pole on Great South Road.

Counties Manukau South Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Matt Hoyes, says the man then used the pole to allegedly smash a supermarket’s storefront windows, causing significant damage.

“Thankfully, staff inside the store were able retreat to a safe room and no one was injured.”

One person has been taken into custody following a reported firearms incident in Timaru on Saturday morning.

At around 11:20am, Police were called to Luxmore Road, Marchwiel following reports of a firearm being discharged towards a property.

Thankfully nobody was injured.

A number of enquiries were undertaken, and a vehicle of interest was located and stopped by armed Police on Evans Street at around 3:30pm on Saturday 8 August.
